The Raffi Foundation for Child Honouring has released a major educational initiative—the first ever self-directed online course on the concept and principles of Child Honouring.  The self-paced course, designed for educators, parents and policy makers, outlines a vision for creating a humane and sustainable world by addressing the universal needs of the very young.

Renowned children’s troubadour Raffi developed the philosophy of Child Honouring over the last 20 years.  It is a comprehensive holistic vision—a unique social change revolution with the child at its heart.  It holds “the primacy of the early years” as key to activating the potential of our species.

The course is based on Raffi’s Covenant for Honouring Children, and its 9 principles for healthy living—Respectful Love, Diversity, Caring Community, Conscious Parenting, Emotional Intelligence, Nonviolence, Safe Environments, Sustainability and Ethical Commerce.

Course designers Raffi and noted educator and illustrator Kristin Wiens take the learner through the Covenant and Principles, offering ways to use them in the classroom and the community. Each module is supplemented by many additional resources, including workbooks.

This interdisciplinary course contains 10 multi-media modules that include videos, interactive activities, distinguished guests and Raffi’s insights and music.

Course registrants receive a free download of Raffi’s unique album for adults.  Motivational Songsis a compilation of 22 songs that Raffi wrote and recorded on various themes of peace, diversity, social justice, civic engagement and sustainability. This album is a companion to the online course.

Called “the most popular children’s singer in the English-speaking world” (Washington Post) and “Canada’s all-time children’s champion” (Toronto Star), pioneering troubadour Raffi has spent more than four decades delighting successive generations of kids–and their parents–with his playful, exuberant personality and irresistibly infectious songs. In that time, Raffi has recorded numerous gold and platinum albums and performed countless sold-out concerts. He has also been hailed for his steadfast commitment to advancing children’s causes through spirited advocacy and education.

At 70, Raffi considers this course and its companion album a legacy project, his offering to “beluga grads” at this pivotal time for humanity.

Raffi says, “If this online course inspires you to become a changemaker, you have my admiration and gratitude. Humanity needs changemakers now and more than ever, co- creating a world that honours its young and respects our blessed biosphere – for generations to come.”
