Little Light, Big World

Little Light, Big World is a free digital children’s book inspired by the Nine Principles of Child Honouring. Through warmth, imagination, and everyday moments of connection, the story invites children to notice their own “light” and the ways care, kindness, and belonging show up in the world around them.

Designed for shared reading, this book can be enjoyed at home, in classrooms, counselling spaces, and community settings.

About the story

Mila and her friend Poco the Robin move through familiar experiences: noticing nature, helping others, caring for the world, and learning what it means to belong.

Rather than teaching lessons directly, the story allows values to emerge naturally through narrative, language, and relationship. Each moment reflects one or more of the Nine Principles of Child Honouring, offering children a felt sense of respect, empathy, and connection.

The story is intentionally open-ended, inviting children to connect the ideas to their own experiences.

For grown-ups

This book is grounded in the understanding that children learn values most deeply through relationship, story, and example. The Nine Principles of Child Honouring are woven throughout the narrative, not as instructions, but as lived moments children can recognize and feel.

Caregivers and educators are encouraged to follow children’s curiosity as the story unfolds.

This resource is shared as part of the Raffi Foundation’s ongoing commitment to honouring children, strengthening caring relationships, and nurturing wellbeing through child-centred education.
